Myths of Our Times [I miti del nostro tempo]
Umberto Galimberti (Monza, 1942), renown Italian philosopher, sociologist and psychoanalyst. From 1976 he was a professor at the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy in Venice. His thought is founded on Freud, Husserl, Heidegger, and from the latter he specifically takes interest in topics such as time, nihilism and technics, connecting them with the worldview of ancient Greeks, mostly of presocratics. Italian publisher Feltrinelli has published his Complete Works in XX volumes. Most important books: Psichiatria e fenomenologia; Il gioco delle opinioni; Paesaggi dell’anima; I vizi capitali e i nuovi vizi; Parole nomadi; L’ospite inquietante. Il nichilismo e i giovani.
In this book he analyzes 18 myths of our time (from fashion, intelligence, happiness, to economic growth and technology), which we will cover in this seminar.
Galimberti will speak in Italian, with a consecutive translation.
The seminar will be held on Monday, 21 October 2019 at 14h at the Institute library, Trg Nikole Pasica 11, III floor, Room 105.
